Blood Glucose Screening Numbers

Diabetes is a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke. In fact, more than 65 percent of people who have diabetes die of cardiovascular disease. Women with diabetes are at an especially high risk for dying of heart disease and stroke, yet an estimated 3 million women do not even know they have diabetes.

What your blood glucose numbers mean

Sister to Sister administers nonfasting glucose tests at its health fairs using a glucometer and a small amount of blood. See your doctor to get a fasting blood glucose test. You must fast for at least 8 hours before the test.

Pre-diabetes 100-125 mg/dL 140-199 mg/dL You are at risk for type 2 diabetes. You need to take action to prevent diabetes. Talk to your doctor about lifestyle changes you should make to prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes.
Diabetes 126 mg/dL or higher 200 mg/dL or higher You have diabetes. It is important for you to work with your doctor or other health care providers to control your diabetes.
